In the continuing saga of what is apparently Beta Season, Diablo 3 beta invites have been going out to lucky gamers. The upcoming hack-and-slash RPG from Blizzard is easily one of the most anticipated upcoming games, one that gamers have been waiting more than a decade for, and given the magic that was StarCraft 2 after a similarly long period of development, there’s cause for optimism. For a lucky few so far, that wait is now over, and the arrival of beta also suggests that the game’s still unannounced release date may not be too far off, too.
So far, a number of write-ups have begun to surface on the Internet regarding the game, and both John Walker of Rock, Paper, Shutgun and Ben Kuchera of Ars Technica have shared their initial impressions. Both of them seem to have been impressed with the gameplay and eye-candy, suggesting that the title might well live up to expectations. Both noted improvements over the prior two beloved games, including in the game’s user interface. However, the Ars article noted issues with maintaining a constant connection to the game’s servers. Luckily, this is still a beta test of the game, and there’s plenty of time for that to get ironed out. After all, it isn’t like Blizzard doesn’t have a long history of running game servers.
Have you had a chance to take Diablo 3 for a spin? Is it living up to your expectations?
