Gabe Newell seems to have this whole birthday thing all mixed up. Gabe, we’re suppose to give you presents, your company isn’t suppose to be sending us presents. Not that any of the lucky people who will be receiving the first batch of invites to the Dota 2 beta will complain or anything, mind you.
Then again, perhaps in a way this is like a gift to him. Gabe has, after all, stated that he has put in a massive amount of hours into the game already. Perhaps this is just a way to give the testers a chance to give him the gift of fresh competition. That’s a pretty good sounding present, I think.
In fact, that is so good, I will humbly offer to give Gabe Newell that very gift if one of those shiny beta invitations end up in my inbox. It is the least I can do, after all.
For the record, yes, the very first beta invitations have gone out for Dota 2. While the beta has been running for quite a while, this is part of the team’s plan to expand out the number of testers significantly If you’ve applied, you may want to apply a liberal use of the F5 key on your inbox today.
(Oh, and Happy Birthday, Gabe)
